If you are working with or interested in the preservation of Manitoba's documentary heritage - documents, electronic records, photographs, maps, plans, film/sound recordings - then you share an interest with the members of the Association for Manitoba Archives.

Benefits of Membership

  • Education and training: The AMA offers its members educational and training opportunities in archival principles and practices through seminars, lectures and workshops.
  • Advisory services: The AMA's Advisory Services Programme provides assistance to member institutions working to improve procedures and practices.
  • Advocacy: The AMA serves as an advocate for archival concerns.

AMA Membership also entitles you to:

  • Newsletter
  • Annual Meeting
  • Nomination and voting rights
  • Membership in Special Interest Groups (Rural and Northern Archives Group, Religious Archives Group)
  • Professional Development and Training Grants (subject to availability, some restrictions apply).

Three types of membership

Individual - Individual Membership is open to any individual interested in supporting the aims and objectives of the AMA.

Institutional - Institutions that:

  • are engaged in the acquisition, preservation and use of archival records;
  • have an operational mandate;
  • have committed resources;
  • a policy for public access;

may apply to become Institutional Members.

The AMA has established basic criteria in seven key areas of archival care. Organisations must meet or exceed these minimum criteria to apply for Institutional Membership. The basic criteria are:

  1. Legal authority statement of purpose
  2. Designated person
  3. Sustainable funding
  4. Secure, designated space
  5. Acquisition policy
  6. Records arrangement
  7. Access policy

Associate - Institutions which do not meet the basic criteria for Institutional Membership are encouraged to become Associate Members. Associate Members may hold archival collections and may make them available upon request. For information on applying for Associate Membership please contact the AMA Co-ordinator.
